Project Details

Project Description:

Our laboratory focusses on the study of various aspects of canine glaucoma, including disease mechanisms, advanced diagnostics, and development/testing of novel therapies. Because glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible vision loss without cure in both dogs and humans, there is an urgent need for scientific advances. Most of our projects are done with dogs that are part of our unique and precious colony of Beagles with inherited glaucoma. The specifics of summer research projects depend on the funding and laboratory needs. Past summer studies typically consisted of testing of novel diagnostic tools and eye drop therapies, and results had an immediate impact on veterinary ophthalmology practice.

Skills Required:

No specific skills are required, but interest in ophthalmology and vision science is beneficial. Furthermore, the student(s) should be willing and interested to work with research dogs.

Project Supervision:

The student(s) will be supervised and supported by Dr. Komaromy and his research team.
