Project Details
Chronic Inflammatory Enteropathy (CIE) is a common disease in dogs which leads to chronic diarrhea and/or vomiting. Diagnosis of this disease is multifactorial, including history, clinical exam findings, abdominal imaging, and histopathologic features in endoscopic biopsies. Most of these cases demonstrate lymphocytic and plasmacytic inflammation or eosinophilic inflammation. Occasionally, these dogs will also have scattered neutrophils. The presence of neutrophils is often interpreted as an acute process along with other inflammation; however, the impact of neutrophils on patient outcome, determination of treatment, and any concurrent disease (such as bacterial infection or dysbiosis) is unknown. This study is retrospective and will involve review of endoscopic biopsies and communicating (phone, email) with clinicians to determine follow up when a dog is diagnosed with neutrophilic inflammation in their intestinal mucosa.
