Project Details
Project Description:
The honey bee bacterial disease European foulbrood is pervasive in US beekeeping operations, causing crop loss and colony death. The causative bacteria, Melissococcus plutonius is persistent, remaining on hive materials even after treatment. In this project we will evaluate the efficacy of various treatment and disinfection methods in reducing pathogen load and preventing honey bee bacterial disease.
Skills Required:
Basic microbiology and bench skills desired. No beekeeping skills needed, but a willingness to work with bees required.
Project Supervision:
Dr. Milbrath will work with you to design and carry out the project, with progressive independence. You will also work directly with other students and post docs.
