Project Details

Project Description:
Backyard poultry are very popular pets but due to lack of available veterinary care, tend to suffer from many infectious diseases that are preventable. Marek's disease is a major cause of death in young chickens but information is still lacking on effective antemortem and postmortem tests, management of flocks, and prevention. This project will focus on developing antemortem and postmortem diagnostic tests for Marek's disease, in addition to hands-on work performing postmortem examinations on poultry.

Skills Required:

No specific skills are required but an interest in avian disease and pathology is desired.

Project Supervision:

The student will work with Dr. Mayra Tsoi, an avian pathologist who enjoy hands-on work and mentoring students.
